How To Roll A Joint: A Joint Rolling Guide For Cannabis Noobs

For some, the ability to roll a joint is almost like a right of passage.

While it can be helpful and fun to use, marijuana should always be used with care! In social settings, knowing how to roll a joint means that you understand that! Because when you can do it right, without too much help from accessories – you can actually minimize the loss of cannabis flower.

Now, let’s roll into how to roll joints, the different types of joints, and what they are!

How To Roll A Joint:

We’ll start with rolling basic joints!

Joints are the traditional marijuana cigarette. They’re rolled using hand-rollable papers, usually the same length as a normal cigarette. Rolling a joint is generally pretty easy, because it only requires a few easy steps. Still, everyone has their rolling nuances. But, for the most part, the steps are the same.

Joints are the traditional marijuana cigarette. They’re rolled using hand-rollable papers, usually the same length as a normal cigarette.

Step 1:

Once you’ve gotten and grounded your desired amount of marijuana, pour the grounded, or, “broken up” weed into your rolling paper. Some people ball up their rolling paper before putting cannabis into it (this is rumored to be more effective than smoking joints).

To make it easier to roll your joint, roll it between your fingers to mold the shape of the weed.

Step 2:

Roll the joint until the glue-less side of the sheet is almost parallel with the weed inside of it. Then roll that part into the inside of the joint and tuck it under the weed. These days rolling papers are created for rolling efficiency. The top of the sheet has a strip of dry glue that makes it easy to seal once fully rolled.

Step 3:

Once the bottom part of the rolling paper is tucked in, you should have the shape of the joint! Now, roll the “almost joint” until the roundness of it is directly underneath the strip of glue. Most stoners lick the strip of glue (don’t worry, this is totally safe and even recommended), and others use a little water. Either way works! But once the glue strip is laid, your joint is ready to be smoked!

You can roll in three basic types: joints (which we just covered), blunts, and spliffs (which can also be a joint). Also, you can pick up our book, How To Smoke Pot (properly)!

What Is A Blunt?

Similar to the joint, a blunt contains ground weed, but is rolled with tobacco leaves instead. In general they contain less nicotine than a spliff. You can make your blunts by gutting out cigars or cigarillos and refilling them with cannabis or buying blunt wraps, which are thicker than rolling papers. Many smokers have their preference as to which type of cigar or cigarello to use. Even music artists make songs about their blunt wrap preference.

In the great words of Musical Youth, “Pass the dutchie on the left-hand side!”

What Is A Spliff?

A spliff is a mixture of ground cannabis and loose tobacco. The addition of nicotine gives the smoker more of an initial head rush as well as an energy boost. This form of smoking is the most polarizing. It’s equal in whether people like spliffs or not. Different places around the world even have different preferences between tobacco and without. Europe, for example, has a lot more spliff smokers than non-spliff smokers – mostly due to the prices of marijuana.

Joint Rolling Accessories

For the new weed smoker, rolling can seem like a daunting task.

The good news is: it doesn’t have to be!

If you’re new to the world of weed smoking, you may be feeling a little overwhelmed by all the options out there. From joint rollers to filters and roach clips, it can seem like there’s an endless number of accessories that can help you get the most out of your cannabis use.

We’re here to guide you through all the best options for rolling joints and other accessories that are sure to make your smoking experience even more fun.

Because who wants to do EVERYTHING by hand?

Grinder

Grinders are used to grind up weed for use in joints, pipes, and other smoking accessories. They’re called grinders because they grind up your cannabis so it’s easier to pack into whatever smoking device you’re using.

Grinders come in all shapes and sizes, but most have two parts: one part where you put your weed in and another part that holds what comes out after it’s been ground up. You put your ground bud into one side, then twist or tap on the bottom until it comes out as keef (which is like baby buds). It looks like little bits of green glitter if it’s been ground properly!

Rolling Tray

A rolling tray will help you make sure your joints are even and consistent, so they taste the same every time. It also makes it easier to keep track of your supplies and avoid any messes. Setting up your rolling tray will make the entire process more manageable, and will help keep your weed clean and fresh as well.

The problem with rolling joints is that they can be pretty small. So if you don’t have a rolling tray or something similar you can make a big mess. A good rolling tray will have compartments for all of the ingredients so that everything stays in its place until you’re ready to use it. We know from experience just how easy to lose track of your papers, crumbs, and other detritus as you’re trying to roll up your joint.

Roach Clips

If you’re new to cannabis use and want to learn how to roll a joint or blunt, roach clips can be a great accessory for you.

They’re used to hold your roaches (the ends of the rolled cannabis) in place while you’re rolling it. They make it easier to get the paper in just the right spot so your joint or blunt is perfect every time. They are also a handy piece when smoking, as they can be used to hold your tiny roach so you don’t burn your fingers and make sure you get every bit of smoke out of your joint.

You can find them at any smoke shop or dispensary near you.

Joint Rollers

Rolling joints can be a little intimidating for new weed smokers.

But don’t worry! We’ve got you covered.

A joint roller is an amazing tool, and it’s one of the first things any noob should invest in. You can use it to make any kind of joint—a cone, a blunt, or even a spliff—and it’s great for rolling with friends and family. Plus, you can use it to try out different kinds of papers and rolling styles until you find what works best for you!

Filters

Are you burning your lips, or inhaling grounded weed along with smoke?

If so, we have some great news: You can use filters on your joints!

A filter is just a little screen that helps keep your rolling accessories together. You can use it for all kinds of things, like keeping your tobacco from spilling out of your cigarette paper or keeping your cannabis from falling out of the end of your joint (and onto the floor).
